Advice ASAP please! Empty Advice ASAP please!

Yesterday my banded doe gave birth to a litter of 13. The pups and mom both seemed fine. Mom is very attentive. But today I find that most pups have empty bellies and not a single one has a completely full belly. I tried hand feeding but none of the pups will accept the KMR. Many of them were cool and inactive (despite the fact that mom is sitting on them). Most had their ribs showing and none had gained weight since yesterday. I've culled all but those with the fullest bellies who were stronger. Is there anything else I can do? Is there any way I can tell whether this is a problem with the pups or with mom's lactation?

No other nursing mothers? Unfortunatly no....there is not much else you can do. If you have another mother to put them on I would.

* OH and I need to drop by your cage on Monday!

No, sadly I don't have any other nursing moms. I have a mum due in the next week but I can't imagine these guys will last that long Sad

Candycorn: No rush on the cage, it's a spare. How are your poor orphans doing?

Yes! Such a delightful surprise this morning: all 5 remaining babies have at least some milk in their bellies! I think if I culled to two or three everybody would have full stomachs. I can see the markings and possibly sex them today. If I could just get one decent banded doe or banded tan buck, I would be happy.

Just saw this, Madmouse!  I'm so sorry!   I wish I had a nursing doe who could foster your babies, but I'm fresh out.  Should have some in about a month, though.
